Favicons - what are they?

A favicon (short for "favourite icon") is a small icon associated with a website, typically displayed in a browser's tab or bookmark. Over the past month we have been updating favicons on all our sites - if you don't have one yet, it's coming!

Displaying your school logo in your tab provides a visual cue for users to quickly identify your website.  It makes your website look more polished and contributes to your school brand visibility.

You will see your favicon on your browser tab and it also displays beside your search results:

Maximising Social Media for Schools

I was honoured to open for a webinar series, How to Maximise Social Media in a School Setting.

The webinar was part of the Country Education Partnership (CEP) series events line up.

I was joined by an RMIT media lecturer and two country schools that shared their (positive) social media experiences connecting with parents.

And if you're not aware of the CEP, please clcik here to learn more.

The webinar was recorded, see below.

eNews Created in Under 90 Seconds

Yep, set myself the challenge. Check out the video to see how I went. The beauty of eNews is that it uses much of the work you've already done in your website. So, instead of managing two mediums, your website and your newsletter, you only need manage one.

Most importantly, why are you even bothering to create newsletters? Well, you'd like them read and if you make them mobile friendly, then there's every chance your parent's will find them easier to view (than a PDF) and much more accessible. Modern communications is all about optimising for mobile.

Here's a few schools using eNews

If you'd like a free trial of eNews, please contact helpdesk@updat-ed.com.au or call Sinead on 1300 755 010

Has your homepage got a missing tooth?

Sometimes the number of homepage articles just doesn't look balanced. It looks like a missing tooth. If you're on Themes 5a/b, 6, 8 & 9, you can organise your homepage articles to avoid that 'there's something not quite right' look.

You can see what we mean by the image below.

You can change the number of display columns (from 1 to 3) and create a Hero article (that runs horizontally); you now have the control to make your website look 'just right'.

Follow these instructions by referring to the image further below;

1: Go to SETUP/Manage Theme
2: Your theme will be highlighted by the radio button as selected, find it and click on the editing pencil
3: Open the drop down menu Select Recent News Style and choose your preferred option
4: Press Update and view your selection by going to your homepage

You can see what a reformatted homepage looks like here Theme9.

On this site, we've chosen Hero 2 x.

Missing teeth look cute on kids, not so much on websites!
